In February 2002, I retired as an
elementary guidance counselor in the Wayne Highlands School District,
Honesdale, PA. When I retired, I looked at the next period of my life as a
whole new chapter to be lived fully. My retirement gift to myself, a 35mm
camera with which I shot slides, opened a door of creativity and initiated a
new passion: outdoor photography.
I have attended professional
photo shoots in the Smokey Mountains, Death Valley, New England, Rocky
Mountain National Park and Glacier National Park as well as seminars
sponsored by Nikon and Rocky Mountain School of Photography. These
experiences have helped me develop new skills and tools as an outdoor
photographer. My camera travels with me both locally in Wayne County, PA and
across the world as I capture images of the outdoors. After a period of
shooting slides, I switched to a digital SLR camera and use Photoshop CS3 as
my photo lab. Although Photoshop is a vital tool with digital photography, I
like to consider myself a “purist.” The images you see are the images I shot
utilizing minimal alterations. I currently shoot with a Nikon D200 using
various lenses.
The enjoyment of the outdoors has
always been a vital part of my life as a wilderness kayaker, canoer, hiker,
snowshoer, and golfer. Joanne Weiss, my wife, best friend and outdoor
companion, and I live in the solitude of the woods in Northeast PA. I
continue to keep one foot in my former professional life as a Licensed
Professional Counselor who works with children and families in Northeast PA.
I am privileged to share my
photos with you and hope that the images provide you with an experience of
inspiration and beauty.
